Pheromone diffuser

A pheromone diffuser is a small plug-in unit that slowly heats a cartridge to release a synthetic copy of a calming pheromone, aimed at reducing stress behaviors such as urine spraying, scratching in new spots, or excessive hiding after a move or a change in the household. The idea is to make an environment feel more familiar and settled to a cat or dog rather than to sedate the pet directly.

It works passively in the background rather than through anything a pet eats or wears, so it is often used alongside other steps like keeping a routine consistent and giving a stressed pet its own safe space, rather than as a stand-alone fix. Effects tend to build over one to two weeks rather than appearing immediately after plugging it in.

Placement matters for how well it works, since the diffuser needs airflow around it and should go in the room where the pet spends the most time, not a hallway or closet. Cartridges need replacing on a set schedule even after the scent is no longer noticeable to a person, since the pheromone can stop releasing before the liquid is fully gone.
